The story of Mičo and me.

Hello.
I'm coming to you today to let you know about the beautiful and sad story of Mičo the cat and me, which ended in a very sordid way.
I'm a french animal lover (living in Slovenia), veggie and I particularly love cats.
About one month ago, a cat who used to live at the pub of my village (Videm-Dobrepolje) had a bad accident, stuck in a window. He was saved soon enough but had minor nerves and muscles injuries, his left back leg was almost paralysed and the right one wasn't working correctly.
Mičo was most of the time living outside, but had access to the building, for food and water and for sleeping. Not vaccinated and not castrated.
I managed to catch him two days after the accident, and drove him at night to emergency veterinary. Hopefully the diagnosis was quite optimistic. We went to see an orthopaedist to get more informations about his health status. Then a physiotherapist came to the pub, where we were keeping Mičo, she told me what kind of exercises to do with him to help him recovering, he also was following an homeopatic treatment given by a specialised veterinary.
After three weeks of care, Mičo was already better, but still needed to stay inside. His owner, thinking Mičo was ready to go back outside (she also had enough of his miaowing), let him go out.
The same day Mičo went into a fight with another cat and came back with few scratches, I managed to get him back and brought him to a room I cleaned specially for him on the other side of the building where I have my flat (it was the only temporary solution to keep him safe as I didn't find any other place for him, and it was not possible to have him in my flat, I have four indoor cats not vaccinated against leucosis and aids).
For the next four days, Mičo was just doing fine, eating a lot and going to toilets normally, walking and jumping like he used to before his accident. Then the morning after I noticed he had a nasty infection on the eyelid where he get a scratch from the fight.
I brought him the same day to the clinic. They took care of the infection, made a blood test and we decided to castrate him for a possible adoption (this was on Monday 02.07.2012).
We found out that Mičo was positive to leucosis, I ask the director of the clinic if Mičo could stay for a while (to have time for puting a wire net at the window of his room, which was on the second floor of the building). He stood there under observation till Wednesday (04.07.2012).
Even if he was quite skinny (already before and also because of his accident), none of the vets told me that he was in pain or dying and that he would need to be put to sleep, and it's true Mičo was not showing any particular signs of a dying cat.
I brought him back home and carried on taking care of him. Because of his disease, we (the people who financially helped us and me) knew Mičo couldn't live outside anymore, so I decide, with the help of few friends on Facebook, to publish an add for adoption.
Quickly after, someone proposed to adopt Mičo: Miroslav Mauko.
He saw the add on the Facebook group of Mačja Hiša, I called one of the member, Meta Stegenšek, and asked her to tell me more about this guy, she said we couldn't find better person to take care of Mičo, that he already adopted three cats with leucosis.
On her advice, I decided to give Mičo for adoption, I asked her if we could sign an adoption contract with Mačja Hiša, she told me it was not possible as Mičo was not one of their cats, I could just sign a paper saying "Me, Mr Olivier Grandovec, give the cat named Mičo to Mr Miroslav Mauko" and both sign it.
Such a document was not signed, but still, I can prove that Mičo still belonged to the original owner and that Miroslav Mauko really welcomed Mičo in his flat, I have some SMS from him, print screens of his messages on Facebook and pictures of Mičo in his flat (see pictures and print screens on blog).
Last Saturday (07.07.2012), Mauko came with one of his neighbour to Videm-Dobrepolje and we went all together back to Maribor. On the way we stopped several times and once I gave food to Mičo, he ate everything. Once in the flat, Mičo was quite scared and was hiding himself, I managed to take him out from his hiding place and he went to eat.
Then it was time to say goodbye to my dear little friend, it was really hard for me after becoming so closed to each other, but I told him not to worry, that a new life will start for him and that he will get the proper love and care he always deserved.
During the week end, Mičo was still hiding but went to eat. On Monday morning (09.07.2012), Mauko told me Mičo didn't eat the night before and that he noticed something strange in the eye where he used to have the infection from the fight. He said he would drive him to the vet after coming back to job. In the afternoon, he called me back to announce me that he found Mičo dead, laying down in the flat, he also told me he would bury him in the garden of is parents. On Facebook, I told him I'd find a way to come to Maribor to say goodbye on last time to Mičo. Mauko answered me that he finally decided to make a symbolic grave and that he called the veterinary services who came to take the body of Mičo away.
I was quite upset about this news, Mičo didn't have a very happy life before we met, the minimum of respect would have been to bury him correctly.
Soon after my reaction, Mauko blocked me on Facebook and switched his phone off.
Then a friend of him, called Mateja Ma and the president of Mačja Hiša (Helena Jovanović-Hacin), started to spread false accusations about the way I took care of Mičo, that he was dying and in pain, that I should put him to sleep, that I was giving him bad food, keeping him in a dark place, that I was harassing Mauko day and night and that other people already had same problems with me
(see print screens on blog). These are absolute disgusting lies and of course none of these people have been able to provide evidences to confirm these accusations.
I took care of Mičo the best I could, offering him love and care, food was the usual one he always had before, not from the vet that's true, because it was not possible for me to buy it with my current financial situation and whatever, we only discovered his disease four days before the adoption, I managed to get enough money to pay all the visits to vets and other specialists plus treatments, and I can tell you that Mičo was not dying or in pain, this lovely little guy was full of love, enjoyed cuddles and caresses, and just wanted to live more than everything else.
Yesterday (Tuesday 10.07.2012), Mauko finally appeared again, sending me this incredible explanation:
"I just discovered why the body of Mičo was not found. When I found him dead, I was in shock and my neighbour told me he will arrange transportation of the body by the veterinary services. Until today, I was certain that the body was there, but when you told me you called on all clinics of the area without finding a trace of the body, I also called and they said that was correct (no body). So I called my neighbour who has confessed to me that he buried Mičo to his parents's garden. I feel so stupid now. " (see pictures on blog).
I called this neighbour, explaining that we wanted to recover the body, he called Mičo "fucking cat" , that we don't have to make such a fuss for so little, that he will not let us enter his property, he is currently on a business trip, he will not return until a week and he will call his lawyer (this conversation was recorded).
Since last Monday, I still don't know what really happened to Mičo, the circumstances of his death are extremely strange, where his body is? Why Mauko is afraid of telling the truth? Why did he gave us three different versions in 24 hours?
Mičo was a scary cat who didn't trust humans, certainly because of bad things that happened to him in the past, during those few weeks spent together, we became really closed to each other, he gave me his trust and he became my friend, my little brother.
Thinking this adoption would be the best for him, our story finally ended in the most horrible and sordid way, I don't know why and this really broke my heart even more.
Please help me, for Mičo, the innocent unlucky cat who deserved much better than such a tragic end.
